Twin engined Bugatti 100P. Possibly the most gorgeous aircraft ever conceived.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Twin mid-engined, with drive shafts to a mixing coaxial counter-rotating gearbox at the nose, to drive the front coaxial counter-rotating double props.

Having the engines inside the fuselage also creates a cooling issue, but solved ingeniously. high-pressure air, forced by the aircraft's airspeed, is taken in at the roots of the upper V elements of the Y-tail, force incoming air through radiators, in the fuselage, which is then ducted and drawn out at the the trailing edge of the main wing root, in a low-pressure airflow zone.

The original, pictured above, is restored, and in the AirVenture museum in OshKosh Wisconsin. Evidently it could not be made flyable.

However, a replica is being worked on, for the purpose of air-worthiness, and trials.

I love this plane. I hope that replica gets to fly some day.

I love it, too. Such a genius masterpiece.

I look forward to it flying as well.

Supposedly it met it's Kickstarter goal, and is on it's way to being completed.

Went to Hops and Props at EAA Oshkosh last year. After about an hour of trying beers, my friends and I (almost all engineers) started drinking near this. Then for about 10 minutes discussed the design. Then we realized we were out of beer, got another one and continued to talk about it. It was a good time and really cool venue for a beer tasting event.
